A question we get a lot from our customers is “What is the best temperature setting for my air conditioner?” We know that you don’t want to set it too high so that you’re still sweating, but we also know you don’t want to set it so low that your energy bills will be astronomical. So, what is the best temperature for you home?
Why you shouldn’t set the thermostat too low.
When you finally switch on your AC, whether it is at the beginning of the summer season or for the day, it’s important to keep in mind that you shouldn’t set the thermostat too low. Many homeowners are under the impression that their homes will cool off faster because they set the temperature lower, but this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Your AC will run like it always does, but just use more energy and thus cost you more money.
What we suggest:
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, setting the thermostat to 78°F when you are home is enough to keep you cool, but you should set it higher when you are away (which is a notion we also agree with.) But, that doesn’t mean you have to set it to 78°F. The best thing you can do is set the thermostat to a temperature that will make everyone feel comfortable in your home. So, before you set it, have a meeting!
