Originally settled during the Colonial period in 1699 with a single brick house. Haddon Heights is full of history. It still has four Pre-Revolutionary War homes which have been continuously occupied since they were built, putting Haddonfield in the National Register of Historic Places.
It began as part of Haddon Township, named for Elizabeth Haddon. Eventually Haddon Township was portioned off into individual towns, one was Haddonfield, and due to the rising elevation of the land, this land was named Haddon Heights in 1904. Having our own beginnings in Haddonfield, we are proud to offer our unrivaled service to our neighbors in Haddon Heights.
Hutchinson started our local services in 1948 and continue to bring you all of our experience. For all of your heating, and ac needs, or if you need a plumber you can trust Hutchinson’s ‘Expertly Better’ service to leave you comfortable and satisfied. Our business is proud to be providing quality local contractors for the HVAC needs of the over 7,400 residents here. We also respect the heritage of the local businesses that built this place.
On the acres of what is now Haddon Heights, there was a fulling mill which made fabrics from home spun wool, which residents got right from their sheep. The creek water was used to wash and fix the dye to the cloth. Rumor has it that Betsy Ross herself had her fabrics “fulled” there and that most likely includes our first flag.
That may have fueled the reason General Cornwallis destroyed the mill in 1777 in route to the battle of Princeton. He even threw the machines into the creek. John Glover and his family rebuilt the mill after NJ proclaimed independence as a state, and the mill went on providing cloth for residents for one hundred years. Eventually cotton textile plants put the fulling mill out of business, but it was an important staple of the towns stability for a century.
Haddon Heights has received a restoration grant for the Glover Fulling Mill Park and archaeological site, where a public park now sits. You can see the foundation of the mill there. You can even see one of the Glover’s old accounting books there. Haddon Heights is doing a great job at preserving its history. We at Hutchinson are happy to do business here and enjoy going by the park each time we provide heating and ac services to our neighbors.
We like the town’s residents and know how to expertly provide HVAC contractors to do quality work in the homes and businesses here. We approach home comfort using criteria from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. Plus, Hutchinson’s rigorous training standards assure your system will be installed correctly and be operating at peak efficiency.
This town was developed with large comfortable homes in a planned community. It is an older town, with historical rules and religious roots. It is also a dry town, one of thirty-five NJ municipalities that prohibit the retail sale of alcohol. If you have an emergency, or need a plumber to unclog a drain, our staff is on hand ready to save the day! With Hutchinson, you are always in good hands!
