Jim Berry’s lifelong dream was to open his own Heating and Cooling business in Cape May County. In 1988 his dream, aided by his entrepreneurial spirit and community support came true. In a very short time Jim’s Vision to provide World Class heating and cooling service was met as he soared past his competition in delivering 5 Star service. In just eight years Jim’s success allowed him to fold-in Hinkers Heating and Cooling of Wildwood into his enterprise. This new addition allowed Jim Berry to provide his Red-Carpet services to a larger audience, therefore transforming the meaning of service in Cape May County.
With his sights set on retiring to the mountains of Pennsylvania, along with a desire to continue a legacy of serving his loyal customers in Cape May County, Jim Berry sought the perfect fit for his company. Following a brief courtship working together on projects with Hutchinson Plumbing Heating Cooling, Jim decided to hang up his tools for good. In 2013, Hutchinson Plumbing Heating Cooling acquired Berry Heating & Cooling.
George H. Hutchinson and sons, William A. Hutchinson, Sr. and George H. Hutchinson Jr. founded the Hutchinson family business in 1948. George and his sons started HUTCHINSON Engineering with their accumulated wealth – $35 in cigar box – with a “never say no” customer focus in rural Haddonfield, New Jersey. They believed, then, as they do now, in pursuing greatness every day by offering the highest level of service, unsurpassed accessibility and greater value to their plumbing, heating, air conditioning and energy service customers.
Today, Hutchinson continues as a thriving family business serving central and southern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. Hutchinson is committed to ongoing staff training, industry leading certifications, and our technicians are on call 24/7 to repair your AC, heating and plumbing promptly and professionally.
The BERRY story started in the mid-1980’s when Jim purchased his business following the passing of his former employer. Jim helped transition the business by helping the owner’s wife. Jim eventually purchased the business, preserving all of the original employees. He transformed their energy and superior technical heating and cooling knowledge to create a 5-STAR, World Class service driven Team. Over the next few years, the towns that make up Lower Township including, Cape May, West Cape May, Cape May Point, Cold Springs, Town Bank, the Villas and Erma experienced unprecedented growth. Jim, using his skills and his superior service team flourished as well; particularly in the Victorian town of Cape May that was experiencing a Renaissance of Bed and Breakfast venues. Guests desired the comfort of air conditioning in these beautiful homes built in the late 1800’s. Ductless air conditioning was the perfect solution and Berry Heating & Cooling, quite literally, provided installations up and down the streets of the historic town. Because of its reputation, loyal customer base and quality employees, BERRY Heating & Cooling became part of the Hutchinson Family of Companies in 2013. Following a year assisting with the company’s transition, Jim fulfilled his wish to move to western Pennsylvania with his family.
