Mercer County, NJ has been a part of history long before it was officially made a county in 1838. There were originally thirteen counties in New Jersey, but the state realized some counties were creating an imbalance of power and upsetting the legislature. Some larger counties were broken up, and then there were fifteen.
Not wanting an odd number, they created Mercer County. The question being: is there a Middle Jersey? We don’t have that answer but we do know that Mercer County was created to balance out the North and South parts of the state, and it does a beautiful job.
The famous battle of Trenton occurred here and George Washington crossed the river, landing here with his troops in the dark of night to change the course of our freedom. It was once home to two federal Capitals. The Capital of our Union was Trenton, and then it was Princeton before it moved to Washington. The county was named for a revolutionary war hero, General Hugh Mercer who died in the battle of Princeton in 1777.
Today the county is as large and more influential than ever before, with over 374,000 residents. The Governor of New Jersey calls this place his home, with a residence called Drumthwacket. Princeton University, one of the most esteemed ivy league schools in the country is located here. Other claims to fame are The Princeton Theological Seminary, Rider University, The College of New Jersey, Thomas Edison State University, the Institute for Advanced Study, and Mercer County College.
Hutchinson’s plumbing and heating contractors also have a lot of education. They all have a complete, thorough training regimen and a level of expertise required in order to join the Hutchinson team. After that, every worker receives an additional minimum of one hundred hours of training to go with each year they work with us.
Being expertly better is our claim to fame, and we guarantee our work.
Mercer County has other claims to fame, one being a Martian invasion of the Earth in the United States. The Martians landed in West Windsor Township in 1938, frightening the whole nation, who didn’t realize it was just a radio show broadcast and not a frightened newscaster. Orson Wells chose Mercer County to start his “War of the Worlds” invasion.
The only thing as unwelcome as an alien invasion might be an HVAC problem with bad timing or the emergency need of a good plumber. If you spring a leak or overflow your toilet, don’t worry. Call us any time, 24/7. Our expert local plumber will be right there with a smile. Book an appointment through our website or give us a call today!
