You can also save money on your energy bills or qualify for a state rebate program on new HVAC installations.

Rancocas also has a recent history with the EPA. The most known tourist attraction here is Rancocas State Park. The name Rancocas comes from the Native American name Rankokous. Though the Lenni Lenape people were indigenous here, the area was settled by the Powhatan Renape Nation, prior to European settlements.

As recently as 1982, these people were still brokering deals with the US government to remain living here. Chief crazy Horse signed a lease agreement for twenty-five-year lease of the then Renni-Renape Rankokous Reservation, for just one dollar. They named it with respect for the elder Lenape people who predated their living here. Hutchinson’s has been sending local plumbers here throughout the time of the lease. We have been in business providing services to the area since 1948.

Chief Crazy horse was an outspoken tribal leader, he was made chief in 1972. He taught at Rowan University, and lectured at University of Pennsylvania, and at Harvard University. He advocated for laws to prevent discrimination in hiring, and for civil rights. He served as chairman for the state of New Jersey’s Commission of American Indian affairs.
He was quite a personality, known for setting the record straight about Pocahontas, who was a Powhatan woman. He spoke loudly about the Native culture and worked to protect its memory. He was a great American.

He lied on his military application in order to serve our country in World War II at age sixteen. The reservation in Rancocas, that he helped create, was home to festivals for thousands of people. It led educational tours for local school trips and had a museum full of historical artifacts from this area. He was also known for the tribal pounding of drums for peace to all the nations of the world in 1983.

Crazy Horse passed away in 2004, at the age of seventy-nine. A few years later, Westhampton Township reclaimed the land as the Rancocas State Park, as it had been before the lease. The park was first created in 1965. It is now operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and preserved as a natural space. You can hike and do many recreational things here and feel close to nature.
