Malaga, NJ is an unincorporated neighborhood located within the semi-rural township of Franklin in Camden County. Named after the seaside town Malaga in Spain, the residential community is comprised of moderately priced homes with large lots, making it appealing to families looking to escape hectic urban life, yet close enough to enjoy all the amenities of cities like Philadelphia and Camden.
The surrounding township of Malaga is the home of Coda Rossa Winery, named for the red-tailed hawks in the area. The notable winery planted their first vineyard in 2002 and opened to the public eight years later. Coda Rossa hosts multiple festivals each year and is a member of the Garden State Wine Growers Association.
Franklin Township, named for Benjamin Franklin, was formed in 1820 from portions of Greenwich and Woolwich townships. Currently, nearly half of the land is devoted to agricultural use, while only about 25% is designated for residential development. The mostly forested area homes several lakes and streams that flow into the Maurice River. Approximately one-third of the town lies within the Pinelands National Reserve, the country’s first of its kind. The reserve includes portions of seven southern NJ counties and with over one million acres of protected lands, it provides endless opportunities for outdoor adventure and scenic views.
