In 1948, George Hutchinson, Sr. and sons William Hutchinson Sr. and George Hutchinson Jr. founded the Hutchinson family business in rural Haddonfield with their accumulated wealth – $35 in a cigar box.

Today, the thriving 3^rd generation Cherry Hill-based HVAC business employs more than 250 staff and trades as Hutchinson Mechanical Services, Hutchinson Plumbing Heating Cooling, and Hutchinson Energy Services.

Hutchinson provides “comfort, savings and peace of mind” to more than 50,000 residential and commercial customers throughout the Tri-State Region. Since its inception, Hutchinson has continued to deliver the “Hutchinson Promise” of extreme satisfaction and world class service, while providing unwavering support to the communities it serves.

Historical TimeLine

1950s

In 1954, the name was changed to Hutchinson Plumbing and by the mid-1960s, the business was Haddonfield’s largest and most successful plumbing contractor. When founder George Sr. passed away in 1966, his sons and co-founders Bill Sr. and George Jr. retained their co-ownership and leadership roles, continuing to build the business.

1970s and 80s

The third generation of Hutchinsons joined the business and continued to grow the company, adding air conditioning, large mechanical construction and general construction to its business lines. Hutchinson also entered into the government contracting business on both the local and national level.

1990s

The third generation of Hutchinson’s assumed leadership roles in the business. Since that time, and prior to the sale to Conectiv, Hutchinson grew to include a major share of the Tri-State/South Jersey commercial and residential mechanical business with a significant nationwide presence managing full scale construction management and design build construction.

In 1998, Conectiv Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Conectiv, the utility company, purchased Hutchinson. The full service HVAC Company in the mid-Atlantic region with approximately 1,150 employees serving more than 100,000 customers with 20 offices throughout Southeast Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Delaware and Eastern Maryland.

Hutchinson Today

The Heritage Group, LLC was formed in 2000 to acquire assets of the “East Division” of Conectiv Services Inc. (formerly Delmarva Power/ Atlantic City Electric).  Today, Ed is President of the commercial business – Hutchinson Mechanical Services, Fred is CEO of Hutchinson Plumbing Heating Cooling and heads the Residential Division, Bill Jr. is Senior Project Manager, Bob is the Manager of Information Technology and Tom is President of Barth Plumbing Heating Cooling.
