Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Services in Newark, DE

Newark, DE sits where the White Clay Creek and the Christina River make a turn towards the Delaware River. In 1694, Scots-Irish settlers chose this place with Welsh settlers as partners in the task. It was called Newark, meaning new fortification, or new building, possibly after Newark on Trent. People used the rivers to travel to the Chesapeake Bay, or to Philadelphia and Maryland, so the new village provided goods and services to the passers-by. The rivers fueled mills, the ground was fertile and made many crops, plus it was rich with iron and brick clay for the industry.

A preparatory school put Newark on the global recognition map in 1743 when a London born educational institution changed its shores. First starting in PA, then choosing Newark for its home in 1765. Three of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence attended Newark Academy. In 1758, King George II decided to make the town official. He also licensed the area to hold agricultural exchange markets every week, and to host a festival twice yearly. When the Revolution came to pass, this is the first place our flag was flown in battle. It was flown at the battle of Cooch’s Bridge.

Newark established itself during the following hundred years or so, and then more growth comes about. Industries such as the Curtis paper mill and Chrysler car manufacturing fueled the local economy. In 1833 a new state charter started the Newark College. It had previously been established in 1859 but had failed. Eventually, the two schools merged to become Delaware College, which is called Delaware University today. The population almost doubled between the 1960s and ’70s, causing the city to become modern and to protect its history.

Today the city is in the center of a ring of parks, providing beautiful scenery and outdoor activity for residents. Along with the college town charm and the almost thirty thousand inhabitants, Newark is a great place to raise your family.
