Philadelphia is known throughout the world as the City of Brotherly Love, and the center of freedom and Liberty. Here is where our forefathers signed our Declaration of Independence, where our congress was started, and where the Liberty Bell is at home. Children tour Betsy Ross’s house, the Franklin Institute, and the Ben Franklin Museum. Ben also overlooks the city from his perch atop City Hall.
Visitors here take millions of pictures at Love Park and run the art museum steps to pose like a boxer at the Rocky statue. This city is loved by all and Hutchinson is proud to provide expert services to it. Center City, Philadelphia is small, bordered by the Schuylkill River, The Delaware River, South Street, and Vine Street.
Just past vine, out of the center, you can visit Brewerytown. Peeking over the Schuylkill, you can see University City where the students often take advantage of Center City’s Treasures and Fairmount. The Center District, however, is jam-packed with sights and great things to do all by itself. It has the second largest population of a downtown area in the U.S. As of 2018. Second, only to Manhattan, there are over one hundred eighty three thousand residents here. That doesn’t include all of the other great buildings, work places, shops, restaurants and exhibits.
Center City’s must see’s are the waterfront, where Penn’s Landing holds festivals and you can dine on a five star ship, go to a casino, see a concert or read in one of the many open space water view parks. Center City is very walkable, you can people watch on South Street, be dazzled on jewelers row and eat in China town. Conventions are right around the corner, as is the Reading Terminal Market and the Gallery Mall.
The City Hall is a marvel of architecture itself, and is always adorned for the season in lights and activities. You can ice skate in the winter, or go to a Christmas Village in season. The parades have their judging stations here, so for Thanksgiving or Easter you’ll get a treat but for New Years Day you can experience the one of a kind Mummers Show.
You can be a part of fairs and other special events all summer long. Stroll Rittenhouse Square and the new Liberty Plaza. Stand next to an actual sized George Washington at the National Constitution Center, he’s taller than you think. Don’t miss Philadelphia’s 4th of July free concerts, it is fun for the whole family.
For night life, Olde City and Society Hill celebrate “first Fridays”, where small artists and shops open their doors to all and every corner has drink specials, on the first Friday of every month. You can see a show on the Avenue of the Arts, or catch a small live jazz session. Ride the duck, a carriage, a tour bus or grab an uber, but walking is the best choice here.
After restaurant week, or a lap around Rittenhouse Square, you can rise to the top of the new comcast high rise. While you’re up there, make sure to look around for one of our Hutchinson vans, you can’t miss the bright colors.
